Information that helps us research a document
When submitting a Wehrpass, Soldbuch, or related document, it is useful to include:
| Information | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Full name of the individual | Helps identify the correct serviceman |
| Date and place of birth | Useful when distinguishing between people with similar names |
| Branch of service | For example: Heer, Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, or another organisation |
| Known rank or medical role | Helps interpret unit entries and stamps |
| Clear photographs or scans | Full-page images are best for understanding the context of handwritten entries |
| Close-up images of difficult stamps or handwriting | Useful for transcription and comparison |
| Provenance, when known | Helps document the history of the item |
| Your specific question | Allows us to focus on the entry that needs interpretation |
High-resolution images are especially helpful. Please photograph pages in good light and keep the camera parallel to the document whenever possible.
Corrections and uncertain readings
Older German handwriting can be difficult to interpret. Military abbreviations may also have more than one possible meaning.
Sanitäter.eu aims to distinguish clearly between:
- confirmed information;
- probable readings;
- provisional interpretations;
- entries that remain uncertain or illegible.
If you notice an error or believe that a handwritten entry can be read more accurately, please contact us. Corrections are welcome.
Privacy
Please do not send sensitive personal information about living individuals unless it is necessary and you have permission to share it.
When submitting documents, you may request that your name is not published. Please mention this clearly in your e-mail.
